Fifteen of the 16 nations who will compete in Malaysia got invaluable exposure to local conditions ahead of the tournament proper getting underway on Saturday.

USA upstaged 2023 semi-finalists New Zealand in a landmark result at Kolej Tuanku Ja'afar School.

A quickfire 36 from Ritu Singh helped lift the Americans to a competitive total of 120 for eight from their 20 overs. The Kiwis lost wickets steadily during the run chase, with Isani Vaghela taking three of them, as they were stranded on 107 for nine.

Meanwhile, a blistering opening partnership from Gongadi Trisha and G Kamalini powered India to a thumping win over Scotland.

The pair put on 55 runs in the powerplay before 16-year-old Kamalini retired on an impressive 32, which included four fours.

India closed on 164 for seven with Scotland bowled out for 45 in reply.

Nigeria came close to beating Pakistan, falling just 11 runs short of their target at UKM Cricket Oval. Victory Igbinedion’s excellent 46 from 57 balls came in vain as they finished on 94 for six in pursuit of 105. Nepal also impressed against West Indies, losing by nine runs, after Windies finished on 109 for four. Elsewhere, Olivia Brinsden and Charlotte Stubbs took two wickets apiece as England restricted Samoa to 80 for eight from their 20 overs.
