"VAN" (Sports Desk - 07.04.2025) :: Rudrankksh Patil brought home India's second gold medal in Buenos Aires, winning the ISSF World Cup title in the men's 10m air rifle.
Meanwhile, hosts Argentina were on the podium for the first time in the competition, as Marcelo Gutierrez took bronze.
Patil was in control, managing the final with a lead from the first shot. His closest competitor was the 50m rifle 3 positions winner, Istvan Peni from Hungary. Peni is one of the strongest athletes on the World Cup circuit, with 35 medals to his name in World Cup events prior to the final.
However, the Hungarian would have to settle for silver on this occasion as Patil kept his distance, finishing with a total of 252.9 compared to 251.7.
Gutierrez won his first World Cup medal in front of a home crowd, feeding off the atmosphere and keeping the top two honest throughout. He missed the top two by just 0.4 points, instead winning bronze a far margin ahead of Wang Honghao of China and Ilia Marsov.
The Argentine's previous best performance was sixth in 2022 in Rio de Janeiro.
Australia's Jack Rossiter, India's Arjun Babuta and Peter Fiori of United States finished positions sixth to eighth.
ISSF President Luciano Rossi was in attendance at the Medal Ceremony for the event, congratulating the winning athletes.
Competition continues with the women's 10m air rifle final tomorrow.
