Miskelly ready for super sedan show at ANDRA Grand Final

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 01.04.2025) :: The ANDRA Grand Final at Dragway at The Bend across April 25 and 26 will bring to a close the 2024/2025 ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship in spectacular style at what is shaping up as THE sportsman event of the year.

Gold ANDRA Christmas Tree trophies will be on offer at the event for both championship wins and event victories across 11 brackets, including Super Sedan Competitors Group Super Sedan.

It has been a highly competitive Super Sedan season so far, with five event winners from six events already held, with Tony Miskelly the only racer to have taken two event victories (South Coast Nationals and Twilight Nationals).

“The Super Sedan season has been a challenging one with many different event winners across all tracks participating in the ANDRA Sportsman Series,” said Miskelly, who heads to Dragway at The Bend on the 300 maximum points cap.

“I have made a few changes to the suspension of the car hoping to improve my 60 foot times, and I will be looking to take those improvements deep into the elimination rounds of the Grand Final.

“Hopefully at the end of the day I will have done enough to hoist that gold Championship Christmas tree in the air.”

With a long career in Super Sedan racing, a championship victory would be exceptionally meaningful for Miskelly – especially with a new era just around the corner for the Gawler East (SA) racer.

“I have been racing Super Sedan for 14 years and this is the first time I have been in contention for a championship win,” he said.

“With the reclamation of a dedicated ANDRA Sportsman series, the 2024/25 season has been successful for me with a couple of event wins and I have also avoided first round exits which is very important with the large fields we get in Super Sedan.

“A Championship win will be the pinnacle of my Super Sedan career as I prepare to move into the Top Sportsman bracket next season.”

There will be no shortage of gold at this event, with event wins as well as championship victory to be rewarded with prestigious ANDRA Gold Christmas Tree trophies.

“The Super Sedan field is fully of highly skilled racers driving deadly consistent cars, so whoever wins the event to earn the gold tree has raced well, had some luck and got the wins when needed,” Miskelly said.

“I am hoping to go deep into eliminations, hoping to get the event win. If it happens it happens. If not, I know whoever wins the event gold tree is going to deserve it.

“Two gold trees at the one event would be fantastic to share with my crew and race mates.”

While Miskelly has a commanding title lead, an intriguing battle for the championship runner-up is also set to unfold, with Alex Gkroidis (170), Robert Kardum (160), Ned Karanovic (160), Brian Keane (120) and Deborah O’Connell (100) all in the mix.

“I am quietly confident about taking out the championship due to the points lead I have – the real battle will be for the Silver Championship tree where five racers have the opportunity to take that accolade along with the prize money on offer from The Super Sedan Sponsors,” Miskelly said.

“I want to thank all of the Super Sedan racers that have supported the revitalised ANDRA Sportsman Series this season and also thanks to my crew and SA drag racing family who have made this season a memorable one.

“Hopefully we see a bumper Super Sedan field at the Grand Final. I would really like to encourage interstate Super Sedan racers that haven't raced at the Bend previously to come along – the track is brilliant and you will PB in good air here.

“The facility is world class and SA racers would enjoy the opportunity to race against the best Super Sedan racers in the country.”

Super Sedan Competitors Group Super Sedan is sponsored in the ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship by Jacob O’Halloran (Pro Street Design), Brett Mathew (Gawler Mechanical), Dimos Stefanoloulos (Moss Refrigerated Transport), Simon Lazzaro (Lazzaro Earthmoving), Mark Barun (Coffee Barun), Marty Redshaw (Underground Designs), Lisa Sherry (SFR Industries), Ned Karanovic (Smart Road Wreckers), and Tony Miskelly (Wombat Racing).

The ANDRA Grand Final for the 2024/2025 ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship at Dragway at The Bend will be held across April 25 and 26.
