"VAN" (Sports Desk - 06.06.2025) :: An ISSF delegation was invited to the HQ of the Olympic Broadcast Services (OBS) at its headquarters in Madrid on 4 June to discuss TV production of the shooting programme at the Paris 2024 Olympics and start preparing a road map to grow and engage TV audiences on the road to LA 2028 and at the Games.
Olympic Broadcasting Services produces the live television, radio and digital coverage of each Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as other services to Media Rights Holders, and this continuity ensures the highest Olympic standards from Games to Games.
Helen Borobokas, Senior Host Broadcast Producer and responsible for sport shooting at the Games hosted the meeting with her colleagues Kostas Kapatais (Director of Program Scheduling, Kim Erdahl (Senior Graphics Manager) and Ignacio Puig (Graphics Manager).
Representing ISSF at the meeting was ISSF Sport Director Peter Underhill, TV manager Leonardo De Mai, Communication Manager Nick Davies, Marketing Manager Andrea Cuneo and Marketing officer Mirella Seletto.
A detailed explanation from OBS outlines the philosophy behind Olympic broadcasting at the Games, the Multichannel Distribution Service as well as the added value coming from services like Content + and Sport Guides, which help casual fans understand and engage with different Olympic sports.
A discussion on the TV and digital audience “performance” of shooting sport in Paris showed a significant improvement in global reach and appeal when compared to previous Games. This trend was welcomed by both organisations and a lively discussion followed about how to ensure that shooting sport continued its upward trajectory as an Olympic TV product.
Competition format changes for LA 2028 designed to improve the presentation of finals were discussed and ISSF agreed to share the results of trials on new technology like live aiming and VAR. OBS representatives would be invited to major ISSF events before 2028 to ensure that TV production enhancements could also be applied in an Olympic environment.
Finally, OBS and ISSF discussed the importance of an Athlete-centric approach to broadcasting and digital promotion, bringing the fantastic stories of shooting sport athletes to life. The road to LA 2028 is already open and the strong partnership between OBS and ISSF will be a huge boost to the image of shooting sport.
