Moroccan technical mission visits Syria to reopen the Moroccan Embassy in Damascus

"VAN" (International Desk - 29.05.2025) :: A technical mission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad headed to Syria to complete the practical procedures related to the reopening of the Moroccan Embassy in Damascus.

The Maghreb Arab Press Agency reported that the technical mission’s visit to Syria “comes in implementation of the decision of King Mohammed VI to reopen the Moroccan Embassy in Damascus and revive diplomatic relations between the two brotherly countries.”

It noted that this mission “will hold talks with senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Moroccans Residing Abroad in Syria on the logistical, legal, and diplomatic aspects of this process.”

In a speech delivered at the 34th Arab League Summit, held in Baghdad on the 17th of this month, King Mohammed VI announced the decision to reopen the Moroccan embassy in Damascus, which has been closed since 2012.

He stressed that this measure “will contribute to opening broader horizons for the historic bilateral relations between our two brotherly countries and peoples.”
