Great Britain top 2025 World Rowing Under 23 Championships medal table

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 28.07.2025) :: Great Britain ended the 2025 World Rowing Under 23 Championships on top of the medal table after defending both their men’s and women’s eights titles, and adding women’s quadruple sculls gold to the women’s four title won on Saturday.

But Germany finished the regatta with the most medals, picking up five silver and five bronze medals in total. That included six podium finishes out of the eight finals contested on Sunday in Poznan.

A total of 22 nations won at least one medal and titles were shared among 10 nations, as Czechia and Switzerland both picked up gold medals in Sunday’s racing.

Aurelia-Maxima Janzen’s win in the women’s single sculls was her fifth straight medal at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships, following another gold in 2023 and three silvers. The Swiss sculler is now tied with USA rower Kendall Chase as the second individual to win five world under 23 medals; the only person to win more is Italian coxswain Filippo Wiesenfeld, with a total of six.

Czechia won the men’s quadruple sculls, sculling through Poland in the closing quarter of the race to deny the hosts and defending champions a second gold medal. However, Poland did secure a popular silver to add to their bronze in the women’s quadruple sculls.

The British men’s eight continued an impressive run of results in that event, with their sixth consecutive title. They have not been beaten since 2018, and the last time they failed to make the podium was 2015.

The Italian and Greek lightweight men’s and women’s double sculls also defended 2024 titles on Sunday, albeit with new combinations compared to 2024. In the Greek lightweight women’s double sculls, the regatta’s youngest competitor, Paschalina Mouratidou, marked herself as a talent to watch in her first competition at under 23 level.

Also establishing himself as a rower for the future is Türkiye’s Cevdet Ege Mutlu, who won the men’s single sculls to add to his European under 23 title. Mutlu was also seventh at the senior European Rowing Championships earlier this year. Türkiye finished third on the medal table with three gold medals in total, equal to Italy who also picked up two bronzes.

The next World Rowing event of the season will be the 2025 World Rowing Under 19 Championships in Trakai, Lithuania, between 6-10 August. The 2025 World Rowing Championships take place in Shanghai, China, from 21-28 September.
