"VAN" (Sports Desk - 30.09.2025) :: This weekend’s SPRY Spring Nationals will see more than 170 ANDRA Sportsman racers take to Dragway at The Bend for round four of the 2025/2026 ANDRA Regional Sportsman Series.
As part of the packed line-up for the October 3-5 event, which will also include racing for Top Fuel, Pro Stock, Pro Mod, and Pro Stock Motorcycle, New Gen Business Park Competition Bike competitor Nathan Stone is hoping to realise the full potential of his Suzuki GSX.
The 48 year old plumber from Ballarat has been involved in drag racing since he was just a kid, getting his first runs down the strip in Modified Bike around 15 years ago before stepping up to Competition Bike in the last few years.
“A top five finish in Modified Bike nationally a few years ago is probably my key highlight so far,” Stone explained.
At this weekend’s event, Stone is hoping to capitalise on the potential of his bike after a tough last few outings both in general, and at Dragway at The Bend.
“I have only been able to race one round so far this season after I damaged the gear box at the end of the 2024/2025 season, but I did go okay in that round,” he says, referring to the Sunset Nationals at the Atlantic Oils Sunset Strip – round three of the ANDRA series.
“We will be assessing the data we got from Mildura and trying to use that to improve our package this weekend.
“We have had a bit of a rough time the last few times we have raced at Dragway at The Bend, so I am hoping this time to have a fast and consistent bike for the whole weekend.
“It would be great to have a good result there, and to win an ANDRA Christmas Tree would be just amazing, but at this stage we are just focusing on getting the bike to run to its full potential, and we will see where we go from there.”
While it hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for him so far, Stone is a huge fan of Dragway at The Bend.
“The facility is amazing, the track is awesome, and the staff are great,” Stone said.
As he gets ready to take to the track this weekend, Stone sends his thanks to those who are a part of his racing journey.
“I would love to thank all of my crew that always come and help me, my brother Matt, Julian, Chesty, Luke and Corey, and everyone in the bike racing community that always helps out with advice, parts and anything I need.”
