World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals 2025 kick off in style

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 07.11.2025) :: The 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals got underway in Antalya, Türkiye, on Thursday, heralding the start of the discipline’s first-ever Olympiad.

With the exciting Beach Sprint Rowing discipline set to make its debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, the 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals have attracted record entries with over 300 competitors from 52 nations.

While there were several Classic Rowing specialists trying out Beach Sprints for the first time, experience showed in Thursday’s timetrials across the nine events which had their preliminary rounds.

The defending coastal men’s and women’s solo champions, Christopher Bak (USA) and Magdalena Lobnig (Austria) both made it safely through the timetrials to the knockout rounds. However, neither were fastest; Moritz Wolff (Germany) was the quickest men’s solo, while Emma Twigg (New Zealand) posted the fastest women’s time.

Germany had a good day overall, winning the timetrials of both the coastal under-19 men’s and women’s double sculls, with their under-19 men’s solo, Felix Krones, and under-19 women’s solo, Mia Tetiwa, both second in their timetrials.

Türkiye’s Ali Asrin Oz and Efnan Sezgin won the under-19 mixed double sculls timetrial and look good for a world medal to add to their European title they won in Antalya a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Spain were fastest in the coastal mixed quadruple sculls, and Lithuania’s defending champions won the coastal mixed double sculls timetrial ahead of Portugal.

Racing continues on Friday with the second round of timetrials in most of Thursday’s events, as well as the time trial for the coastal inclusion mixed double sculls. The afternoon session features the knockout races for all the under-19 events, with medals up for grabs.
