Record entries for the 2025 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Poznan, Poland

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 11.07.2025) :: The 2025 World Rowing Under 23 Championships are coming up in just under two weeks, taking place in Poznan, Poland, from 23 to 27 July. A total of 239 crews from 53 nations will try to reach the podium across the eighteen boat classes.

Germany and Italy are sending the largest teams, both with entries in 17 of the 18 boat classes offered. The event will see a new record number of entries in both the men’s and women’s eight, with 14 and 10 entries each, respectively.

It will also include the first ever appearance of the PR3 Under 23 Men's and Women's Single Sculls (PR3 BM1x, PR3 BW1x), with four and two entries each.

The Under 23 men’s single sculls has the most entries with 29 boats entered, and all eyes will be on the battle between Aaron Andries of Belgium, Oscar Ruston of New Zealand and Diogo Goncalves of Portugal – all of them were in the A-Final last year in Canada. The U23 men’s single will also see, for the very first time, entries from Malaysia and Somalia.

The Under 23 women's single sculls standout is Aurelia-Maxima Janzen, who will be participating in her fifth World Rowing Under 23 Championships (the most of all the competitors in Poznan). She is one of six Olympians who will be competing in Poznan.

One of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games’ medallist is Dimitra Kontou of Greece. She started her season with a silver medal at the European Championships, and will now try to add a third World Rowing U23 title to her pedigree, with a new partner in the women’s double sculls, Varvara Lykomitrou.

The blue ribband event, the eight, has14 entries on the men's side, and fireworks are expected between Great Britain, the USA, Romania and Australia in this hotly contested event. The women’s eight sees a record number of ten entries, with multiple athletes from last year returning to the biggest stage.

Racing will be held at Poznan’s international regatta venue, on Lake Malta, which has previously hosted the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in 2018. Poznan also played host to the 2009 World Rowing Championships and more recently, stages of the World Rowing Cup in 2024 and 2022.
