Romario Shepherd, Reflecting on his 14-ball half century!

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 05.05.2025) :: “I was just thinking to hold my shape and try to hit the ball as flat as possible. I had an idea of what they were trying to do, that kind of gave me a head start. I had no time to actually try and gather information on the pitch. So, from what I observed in the dugout and when I walked to the pitch, I just trusted what Timmy told me and tried to execute what we practiced.

I know how well Pathirana can bowl his yorker, how difficult his slower ball is, so I just had to keep my eyes on the ball and play each ball as it comes.

Timmy (Tim David) told me, ‘If you want all, take all.’ At that point in time, the way he communicated with me gave me confidence, he made me feel like I’m the guy who can hit each ball.”

Romario Shepherd on Yash Dayal

“His execution was spot on. Right through the game, he was bowling well until the last over, when he got hit for a six off a no-ball. But the way he held his composure and came back from that was exceptional. We all know how good he can be. It’s not the first time either. Against Rajasthan, he defended 17 runs. He’s high on confidence and hopefully he can continue pulling through these games for us.”

Yash Dayal, on his composure during the last over

“In my mind, I was thinking about how to execute the next ball, like I have done before. I had confidence in my mind that I could do it. I didn't have any intention of going for a wicket, that was the lucky part for me, and I just had to execute.”
