Jakarta moves to inspire with the first FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in South-East Asia

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 19.10.2025) :: The world’s best artistic gymnasts have arrived in the Indonesian capital to compete for 12 medals that are up for grabs at the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, which take place from 19-25 October at the Indonesia Arena.

After four previous events held in Asia, this is the first time that the FIG’s flagship event is being held in South-East Asia, in the world’s fourth most populous country – home to over 280 million people and more than 700 different languages.

“The 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta brings a series of unprecedented milestones,” said FIG President Morinari Watanabe at today's opening press conference. "In addition to being the first time that the event is staged in South-East Asia, the championships aim to leave a lasting legacy by promoting gymnastics as a way to support healthy ageing and reduce social security costs. The event also aspires to spark greater worldwide enthusiasm for gymnastics, encouraging children to take it up not only as a sport but also as a life-long practice to build essential physical skills.”
