"VAN" (Sports Desk - 16.08.2025) :: The countdown to the 2025 World Rowing Championships officially began this week in Shanghai, China, with a special “One Month to Go” celebration marking the launch of ticket sales for the flagship event of the international Rowing calendar.
In just over five weeks, from 21 to 28 September 2025, the city will welcome more than 1,000 athletes from over 60 countries, including China’s brightest rowing stars and Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Champions, for what promises to be one of the most spectacular editions in the history of the World Rowing Championships.
The Championships will introduce first-ever medal ceremonies staged in the city centre and debut two new mixed events – the Mixed Double Sculls and the Mixed Eight – reflecting World Rowing’s drive to innovate and attract new audiences.
“This is not just another World Rowing Championships – this is the Shanghai World Rowing Championships, on a scale that only China and Shanghai can deliver. Anybody that will attend the World Rowing Championships will be amazed by the backdrop provided by this outstanding city, by the passion for Rowing, and by the future of their beloved sport here in Shanghai.” said World Rowing Executive Director Vincent Gaillard, highlighting the event’s anticipated global reach through millions of TV viewers and international media coverage.
