"VAN" (Sports Desk - 01.03.2026) :: Defending champions Sutume Asefa Kebede and Tadese Takele return to Tokyo aiming to defend their titles against world-class fields packed with major marathon winners, global medallists and record-breakers.
In the women’s race, former world record-holder Brigid Kosgei, Chicago champion Hawi Feysa, Berlin runner-up and ASICS athlete Mestawut Fikir (PB 2:18:48), and 2023 Tokyo winner Rosemary Wanjiru add serious firepower to an already stacked lineup.
On the men’s side, Takele faces strong challenges from Timothy Kiplagat, Alexander Mutiso Munyao, Berlin champion Milkesa Mengesha, and ASICS athlete Iliass Aouani, bronze medallist at the World Championships Tokyo 25, in what promises to be a fast and fiercely competitive race.
