Bhowneesh, Kynan start strong in Tangier

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 01.04.2026) :: Bhowneesh Mendiratta and Olympian Kynan Chenai had strong starts to their men’s trap campaign at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Shotgun in Tangier, Morocco, shooting identical scores of 72 after the first three round of qualification at the Tangier Shooting Club. Bhowneesh, the Asian championship silver medalist last year ended the day in sixth position while Kynan was placed 12th on countback. After two more rounds on Wednesday (Apr 01, 2026), the top eight go through to the finals.

Bhowneesh had a perfect final round score of 25 to follow up on scores of 23 and 24 in the first two rounds. Kynan on the other hand shot 24 in all three rounds. Fellow Olympian Prithviraj Tondaiman, the third Indian in the fray, shot 65 (24,21,20) to be placed 67th.

In the women’s trap, all three Indians shot identical scores of 65 with Kirti Gupta (20,22,23) highest placed at 19th while Aashima Ahlawat (22,22,21) and Rajeshwari Kumari (24,21,20) took the 21st and 24th spots provisionally.
