Countdown begins for ASUNCION and Rio-Niteroi in their race to host the PAN American Games 2031

- From September 28 to October 3, Panam Sports officials will visit the two candidate cities for the 2031 Pan American Games. The election will be held at the Extraordinary Assembly on October 10 in Santiago, Chile.

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 29.09.2025) :: The candidate cities for the 2031 Pan American Games will receive an important visit next week. The Panam Sports Evaluation Commission, led by President Neven Ilic and Secretary General Jimena Saldaña, will travel to Asuncion, Paraguay, and Rio de Janeiro-Niteroi to meet with the highest sports authorities of each city and make an official visit to the different sports venues that each country has to offer.

It should be noted that the members of Panam Sports who will attend both visits are: President Neven Ilic, Secretary General Jimena Saldaña, and the presidents of the National Olympic Committees Mario Moccia of Argentina, Dennis Knight of Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Sara Rosario of Puerto Rico.

In addition, the continental organization will be represented by part of its staff, including Ana Paula Gonzalez, Games Director; Andrea Carvajal, Sports Director; and Alejandro Goycoolea, Communications Director.

The first visit will take place from September 28 to Wednesday, October 1, to the city of Asuncion, Paraguay, and then on to Rio de Janeiro–Niteroi, where the Evaluation Commission members will stay until October 3.

“These official visits are part of the process for electing the city that will host the XXI Pan American Games in history. The main objective is for the Commission to see firsthand what each country has to offer to Pan American sports. We will hold meetings with the main government and sports authorities and, of course, we will visit the facilities available in each of the cities. After the visits, the Commission will present a report to the Extraordinary General Assembly of all the member countries of our organization, prior to the election," said Panam Sports Secretary General Jimena Saldaña.

"These are two great cities of our continent, and as an organization we are very happy and proud that they want to host our Pan American Games. We are confident that, whichever city wins, it will be a great venue for our continental sports event," added Jimena Saldaña.

The election to determine the host city for the 2031 Pan American Games will take place at the Panam Sports Extraordinary General Assembly on Friday, October 10, in Santiago, Chile.
