2025 a turning point in building Syria as a modern state - Zaidan

"VAN" (International Desk - 03.01.2026) :: Presidential Media Advisor Ahmad Muwaffaq Zaidan said on Thursday that 2025 marked a turning point in building Syrian state institutions, with achievements surpassing what some nations have accomplished in a decade.

In an interview with Syrian Al-Ikhbariya TV, Zaidan described 2025 as “the year of institutionalization” in Syria, highlighting major accomplishments driven by President Ahmad al-Sharaa, the government, and relevant bodies at local, Arab, and international levels. He voiced hope that 2026 would witness the return of the Syrian refugees and the end of life in refugee camps.

Zaidan noted that the most significant accomplishments included the lifting of sanctions imposed on Syria since 1979 and the Arab rapprochement that reintegrated the country into the international community after decades of isolation. These developments, he said, helped address critical regional issues such as the refugee crisis, Captagon trafficking, and terrorism.

He emphasized that Syria has entered a new phase of rebuilding the state on foundations of respect for citizens and combating corruption, noting that this needs time due to the destruction and injustice left by the deposed regime over six decades.

Zaidan added that Syrians’ celebrations on December 8, marking the first anniversary of liberation, reflected their confidence in the state. He underlined that the fall of the Assad regime was not achieved by military force alone, but by the will of the Syrian people. Despite displacement, Syrians resisted fragmentation and formed a strong support base for the state’s progress both inside and outside the country, praising the role of Syrian communities abroad in championing the national cause internationally.

The Advisor further stressed that Syrian media acted as a “real army” in countering disinformation campaigns, noting that the achievements were not only military but also political, civil, and media-related.

Concluding his remarks, Zaidan expressed optimism about Syria’s future, affirming that state-building will only be achieved through collective cooperation, and that stability and development will prevail thanks to the unity of the Syrian people and the support of Arab nations.
