- The Chief Executive of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Phil Batty OBE, has today welcomed the news that Ahmedabad, India, has been chosen to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
"VAN" (Sports Desk - 26.12.2025) :: Ahmedabad, in the Indian state of Gujarat, was ratified as the chosen host city for 2030 at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly held in Glasgow following a vote by delegates representing the Commonwealth’s 74 competing nations and territories.
The announcement that Glasgow will be handing the baton on from its 2026 Games to Amdavad for the centenary edition of Commonwealth Games in 2030, comes after the Indian city was recommended by Commonwealth Sport’s Evaluation Committee and Executive Board last month.
Phil Batty OBE, Chief Executive of the Glasgow 2026 said: "The awarding of the centenary Commonwealth Games to India feels like a real milestone moment for the Commonwealth Sport Movement.
“As Glasgow prepares to welcome 74 nations and territories from across the Commonwealth to our Games in 2026, the whole team at the Organising Company would like to congratulate Amdavad on their successful bid for 2030. Their vision, energy and ambition have been incredible; we're looking forward to collaborating with them, as we build shared plans to stage a brilliant, sustainable and inspiring Games next year.
“It goes without saying, that Scotland’s decision last year to step forward and host the Commonwealth Games in 2026 was not only courageous but also a real catalyst for change within the movement and how major events are planned and delivered. We’re creating a blueprint for other hosts to follow; a reimagined Games which will secure The Commonwealth Games for the next 100 years.”
