"VAN" (Sports Desk - 27.09.2025) :: India’s Jonathan Gavin Antony, stole the spotlight on competition day two of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun New Delhi 2025, dominating the junior men’s 10m air pistol here at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, eventually striking gold, India’s second in two days, with a score of 244.8 in the final. Jonathan’s effort helped India maintain top billing on the medal table with five nations now winning medals. Earlier in the day, Rashmika Sahgal’s silver in the junior women’s air pistol, meant India finished the day with a tally of two golds, three silver and two bronze medals.
Jonathan was a cut above the junior men’s air pistol field, firing a top class 586 to first top qualifying by a distance and then posted a wire-to-wire finish in the eight-man final, leaving silver winning Italian Luca Arrighi a massive 8.5 behind. Spain’s Lucas Sanchez won bronze.
The Indian shot only four out of his 24 final shots outside the 10-ring with nine others scoring 10.5 or more in a stunning display at the age of 16.
“I relaxed a bit in the end seeing the lead,” he admitted after the final-something which kept him under countryman Saurabh Chaudhary’s junior world record mark by 1.5 points.
In the day’s first final, Individual Neutral Athlete (AIN) Evelina Sheina won gold with an effort of 240.9 in the final. India’s Rashmika Sahgal, began slow but recovered brilliantly to clinch silver with a score of 236.1, while Iran’s Fatemeh Shekari won bronze.
