World Rowing attributes the 2027 and 2028 Beach Sprint Finals and Coastal Championships to Portugal and Türkiye

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 18.12.2025) :: World Rowing has today confirmed that the 2027 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals and Coastal Championships will be hosted in Oeiras, Portugal, with the 2028 edition awarded to Antalya, Türkiye, following a decision by the World Rowing Council.

Both venues and organising committees bring proven experience and strong organisational credentials to the discipline of Coastal Rowing, having already successfully delivered the sport’s flagship event. Antalya hosted the 2025 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, while Oeiras welcomed the global Coastal Rowing community in 2021.

The 2027 event in Oeiras will hold particular historic significance, as it will serve as the Olympic qualification regatta for the first-ever Olympic competition in the discipline of Beach Sprint Rowing, set to make its debut at the LA28 Olympic Games. With Olympic places on the line, the event is expected to mark a major milestone in the evolution of the discipline and attract unprecedented global attention.

“The attribution of the 2027 and 2028 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals reflects both confidence in experienced hosts and our long-term vision for the development of Coastal and Beach Sprint Rowing, said World Rowing President Jean-Christophe Rolland. Oeiras and Antalya have already demonstrated their ability to deliver outstanding events, and both locations offer ideal conditions for high-performance.”

Beach Sprint Rowing has seen rapid growth in recent years, driven by its dynamic and innovative format and strong spectator appeal. As the discipline continues its strategic development towards LA28, including through participation at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, World Rowing remains focused on strengthening event delivery, increasing global participation, and showcasing the sport in iconic coastal locations.

The return to Oeiras in 2027 and the continuation in Antalya in 2028 underline World Rowing’s commitment to building a sustainable, high-profile competition pathway for Beach Sprint Rowing, ensuring the sport enters its Olympic era on a strong and stable footing.
