"VAN" (Sports Desk - 20.01.2026) :: Sanya has mobilised the resources of the entire city to put on a 6th Asian Beach Games spectacle according to Zhang Changfeng, Deputy Secretary General of SABGOC and Deputy Mayor of Sanya City.
Updating delegates attending the 6th Asian Beach Games Sanya 2026 World Press Briefing & World Broadcasters Meeting on Monday, January 19, the Deputy Secretary General of the Organising Committee said preparations for the April 22 – 30 Games had entered a critical stage.
“Currently, preparations have entered a critical stage of an all-out final sprint and decisive victory. Sanya is mobilising the resources of the entire city, working with high efficiency and synergy to solidly advance all preparatory tasks,” Zhang told his audience, both on-site and online.
A total of 139 Press and Broadcasters were tuned in at the Sanya Jinghai International Holiday Hotel, which will also serve as the Main Media Centre, to listen to the briefing from the organisers.
Zhang said the Games will feature 14 sports, 15 disciplines, and 63 events, including classic sports like beach volleyball and sailing, as well as emerging sports like teqball, fully showcasing the vitality of beach sports and the natural charm of Sanya.
“Currently, all 45 National Olympic Committees of the OCA have enthusiastically registered to participate. Final registrations are expected to be completed by February 10, and the scale of the Games is expected to reach a new high,” Zhang noted.
“We have established a high-level competition team. International and Asian sports federations have dispatched technical delegates, and the General Administration of Sport of China has assigned competition directors to provide full-process guidance for the event operations,” he added.
The Games will be held at eight competition clusters located at the ‘Coconut Dream Corridor’ Sanya Bay, the scenic Sanya River, and the modern Sanya Sports Centre. All venue construction adheres to green and sustainable concepts, primarily utilising and renovating existing facilities.
Zhang revealed that the Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be held at the Asian Beach Games Park on April 22 and 30, respectively.
Among other information:-
· Athletes and media will be housed at 24 high-quality official hotels, most located along the scenic Sanya Bay coastline.
· 5,000 volunteers will be on duty.
· 1,000 new-energy vehicles will be deployed.
· Three Grade-A tertiary hospitals will be designated for the Games.
· Tours and cultural shows will be held for visitors with exclusive discounts available at partnered scenic sports, hotels and restaurants.
· A wide range of corporate sponsors have come on board to support the Games.
“We sincerely hope with the help of our media friends, we can present a new Hainan to the world, and a new Sanya that is open and inclusive, innovative and enterprising, vigorously developing, beautiful, and romantic,” Zhang said.
