"VAN" (Sports Desk - 09.07.2026) :: The FIFA World Cup 2026 has been enthralling. From upsets to improbable comebacks. From late goals to shootout heartbreak. This tournament is already one for the ages.
This has also, undoubtedly, been the finals for the superstars. A raft of football's biggest names have flocked to sport's grandest stage and planted their respective flags with gusto.
For the first time ever, three players have scored at least seven goals at one tournament, with Lionel Messi leading the adidas Golden Boot race on eight, and Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe sitting just one behind. Harry Kane, meanwhile, is on six – the same tally which won him the prize at Russia 2018 – and continues to dazzle for England.
Cristiano Ronaldo played at his final World Cup, but bowed out with another slice of history. In a 5-0 win over Uzbekistan, he became the first player in history to score at six editions. The Portuguese icon would go on to net three goals in North America, taking his overall tally to 11 from 27 appearances.
On the wings, Vinicius Junior caught the eye with spellbinding skill and scored in all three of Brazil's group-stage matches, while Michael Olise sits atop the assist charts with five.
Enjoy our video above on some of the best bits from planet football's biggest names as we gear up for what promises to be a mouth-watering finale.
