ANDRA pays tribute to Board Member Trish Crossin AM

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 15.04.2026) :: The Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) is deeply saddened to share the news of the unexpected passing of Patricia (Trish) Crossin AM, who served as an Independent Director on the ANDRA Board for the past two years.

A former Senator for the Northern Territory and the first woman to represent the NT in the Federal Parliament, Trish brought to ANDRA an extraordinary depth of experience in governance, accountability, and public leadership.

Her long-standing commitment to community service, strategic reform, and organisational integrity made her an invaluable contributor to the future direction of ANDRA drag racing.

Trish’s connection to the sport was longstanding and meaningful. During her time in the Senate, she was instrumental in securing $4.5 million in federal funding to upgrade and redesign the Hidden Valley Drag Strip in Darwin – an achievement that continues to benefit racers, volunteers and fans across the Northern Territory.

More recently, she played an active role in the current grant application for the Swan Hill Dragway, demonstrating her ongoing dedication to strengthening drag racing infrastructure nationwide.

ANDRA Chief Executive Officer, Tim McAvaney, said all at ANDRA are in shock at the news of her passing.

“Trish was such a driving force for ANDRA, and her expertise in the area of governance, accountability and integrity have been instrumental over the past two years. Her loss is being deeply felt by all involved with ANDRA,” McAvaney said.

ANDRA Chair Katie Cassar expressed her profound gratitude for Trish’s service.

“I am deeply saddened by Trish’s passing. She has been fundamental to the significant improvements in the governance of our organisation over the past couple of years,” Cassar said.

“We were privileged to learn from her remarkable knowledge and experience during her time on the Board. I am sincerely grateful for her service, her contributions and her friendship.”

Beyond her parliamentary career, Trish was a respected Director and Chair across numerous community, education, sporting and statutory bodies.

Her leadership extended to the Gordon Institute of TAFE, Westjustice Community Legal Centre, St Columba’s College, Asthma Foundation NT, Rainbow Disability Services Club, Gender Equity Victoria, and many others.

She was also a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant service to the Parliament and the Northern Territory community.

The ANDRA Board, management, staff, volunteers and members extend their deepest condolences to Mark, Paul, Amanda, Melinda, Kate, and the entire Crossin family during this difficult time.

Trish’s legacy of service, integrity and passion for strengthening Australian drag racing will remain an enduring part of ANDRA’s history.
