"VAN" (Sports Desk - 23.01.2026) :: Amongst the almost 150 racers heading to Sydney Dragway for this Saturday’s ANDRA Drag Racing Masters, four incredible Pro Stock machines are set to turn heads at the Australia Day weekend event which will mark the return of ANDRA Drag Racing to the NSW venue for the first time in years.
These street-appearing, four-seat sedans and coupes utilise naturally aspirated V8 engines fitted with carburettors and often cross the finish line within thousandths of one another, making for exceptionally tight competition.
Darryl Stephen, Thomas Leake, Clint George, and Peter Mammone are all currently putting the final touches on their preparations for Saturday’s event, where they will be sure to delight attending fans across the packed one-day racing program.
In the world of Australian drag racing, the Leake name needs no introduction, and second generation racer Thomas Leake – son of national champion Bruce Leake – will be one to watch at the ANDRA Drag Racing Masters this Saturday after making the step up to Pro Stock in late 2024.
“I am really looking forward to racing at this event – it is a great opportunity to put on a show for the fans and to be part of what I expect will be a huge day of racing,” Leake said.
“The expectations are high, and I am hoping we can put together a strong performance on the day!”
The ANDRA Drag Racing Masters will allow Peter Mammone a chance to make an important step up in his drag racing career.
“It is my ultimate goal to run in Pro Stock in the future, and I am looking forward to running at the ANDRA Drag Racing Masters,” Mammone said.
“Thanks to the Pro Stock guys for allowing me to step up and take part in this event with them.
“Although the car is still a Super Stock car with a smaller 347 cubic inch engine, we are working towards developing the car for when we acquire a 400ci engine.
“It will be fun to run a pro tree for the first time and look forward to using this event as a stepping stone.”
Alongside Pro Stock, the ANDRA Drag Racing Masters will also feature fellow feature brackets, the Doorslammer Masters, Pro Mod Masters, and Extreme Motorcycle Masters, as well as racing for the ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship – with almost 150 racers pursuing more than $70,000 in cash and prizes as well as highly coveted Gold ANDRA Christmas Tree Trophies.
