"VAN" (Sports Desk - 11.05.2026) :: The Libyan sports community, alongside Arab and international media circles, is mourning the passing of distinguished sports journalist Ibrahim Hima, who died after a long and influential career dedicated to sports journalism and media.
Hima was considered one of the pioneering figures of Libyan sports journalism, playing a key role in shaping the country’s sports media landscape from the 1960s through the early 2000s.
Throughout his career, he became a prominent voice in local sports newspapers, enriching the field with insightful articles, analysis, and extensive coverage of major international sporting events.
The late journalist covered some of the world’s most prestigious tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup, the Africa Cup of Nations, and the Olympic Games.
He earned widespread respect for his professional writing style, deep knowledge of sports, and balanced journalistic approach, leaving a lasting mark on Libyan and Arab sports media.
During his career, Hima held several prominent media positions, working for newspapers such as “Al-Najm Al-Riyadi,” “Al-Riyadah Al-Jamahiriyah,” “Al-Shams,” “Al-Shabab wal Riyadah,” and “Al Ahli Tripoli Newspaper”.
He also served as head of the cultural committee at Al Ahli Tripoli, managed the media committee of the Libyan Football Federation, and represented Libya at the International Sports Press Association (AIPS).
With his passing, Libyan sports journalism has lost one of its most respected and influential figures — a journalist who embodied professionalism, integrity, and experience, and who helped establish a distinguished school of sports media that inspired generations of journalists.
