Lineup confirmed for FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 in Berlin

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 22.04.2026) :: The path to the trophy for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 has been determined, as the groups for the twentieth edition of the event were confirmed in Tuesday's draw.

The 16 teams were divided into four groups of four teams each.

The results of the draw are as follows:-

Group A: Japan, Spain, Germany, Mali
Group B: Hungary, Korea, Nigeria, France
Group C: Belgium, Australia, Puerto Rico, Türkiye
Group D: USA, Czechia, Italy, China

The draw was performed by Australia national team icon Lauren Jackson, assisted by Stefan Kretzschmar, a legendary figure of the German national handball team, and Jilou, one of the top female breakdancers in the world. Sue Bird, a FIBA Hall of Famer and Women’s World Cup Global Ambassador, was on stage to present the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup Trophy.

FIBA President Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani, FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis, and FIBA Central Board members were also present, along with representatives from the participating National Federations and the German Local Organizing Committee.

The FIBA Hall of Fame Class of 2026 was in attendance. The class features an array of iconic names: Sue Bird (USA) and Dirk Nowitzki (Germany), alongside Celine Dumerc (France), Clarisse Machanguana (Mozambique), Hedo Türkoğlu (Türkiye), and Wang Zhizhi (China), while Ludwik Miętta-Mikołajewicz (Poland) is inducted as a coach. Ismenia Pauchard (Chile) was honored posthumously.

The FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 will take place from September 4–13, with the field expanded from 12 to 16 teams following the most successful edition ever, held four years ago in Sydney. This change also highlights the ever-increasing popularity of the women's global game.
