"VAN" (Sports Desk - 02.04.2026) :: The fifth episode of the ‘Women Who Thrive’ series features England and Great Britain hockey Olympian Tess Howard. Since earning her first senior call-up in 2018, she has been a key pillar of her national team, scoring in the final to help England win gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and reaching the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 with Team GB.
Tess Howard has successfully advocated for female players to have the option to wear skirts, skorts, or shorts, thereby promoting inclusivity in hockey.
She was awarded an MBE in the 2025 New Year Honours.
In this captivating short film, she discusses, among other topics, the challenges faced by young girls growing up in sport. “When your body is changing, it’s really about focusing on what your body can do rather than maybe what it looks like or how it’s different to what it was a few months before”, she says.
