DPR Korea and China Continue Dominance on Day 4 of the 2026 AWF Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 15.05.2026) :: Lifters from DPR Korea and China continued their exceptional run on Day 4 of the 2026 AWF Asian Senior (Men & Women) Weightlifting Championships in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, while India added another medal to its tally with a commendable Bronze Medal performance.

In the Women’s 63 kg category, Suk Ri of DPR Korea won Gold in Clean & Jerk and Total with a new Asian and World Record total of 254 kg, while Liuyue Yang of China claimed Gold in Snatch with a record lift of 112 kg and secured Silver overall with 251 kg.

In the Men’s 79 kg category, Ryong Hyon Ri of DPR Korea secured Gold and created new Asian and World Records in Clean & Jerk (206 kg) and Total (364 kg). Chong Song Ri of DPR Korea earned Silver with 358 kg, while China’s Lu Naigang took Bronze with 345 kg.

Earlier, in the Men’s 71 kg category, Won Ju Ri of DPR Korea claimed the Gold Medal with a total lift of 351 kg. China’s Jian Chen secured the Silver Medal with 335 kg, while India’s Ajith Narayana delighted the home crowd by winning the Bronze Medal with a total lift of 314 kg, marking India’s first medal in the category after 15 years.

The President of the Indian Weightlifting Federation congratulated all medal winners and participating teams for their outstanding performances and extended best wishes to all countries for the remaining events of the championship.
