China finished on the top of the podium while India is on 11th place after the successfully completion of Asian Senior Weightlifting Championships 2026

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 18.05.2026) :: The six-day-long prestigious concluded successfully today at the Mahatma Mandir Exhibition Hall-1, Gandhinagar, Gujarat after witnessing outstanding performances, new world and Asian records and fierce competition among Asia’s leading weightlifting nations.

The Championships organised by the Indian Weightlifting Federation, the championship was held from 11 to 17 May 2026 and featured participation from leading Asian countries across men’s and women’s categories.

A total of 30 nations competed in the 2026 Asian Weightlifting Championships-Gandhinagar with participation of 172 athletes – 97 Men + 75 Women.

A total of 20 nations competed in the women’s section and more than 15 nations participated in the men’s section, with top lifters from across Asia showcasing elite-level performances throughout the championship. The competition featured eight women’s bodyweight categories and seven men’s bodyweight categories.

Women’s Team Championship

China emerged as the overall women’s team champion with 578 points, followed by Chinese Taipei with 491 points and India finishing third with 487 points.

Men’s Team Championship

China also dominated the men’s section with 593 points, while DPR Korea secured second place with 478 points and Uzbekistan finished third with 409 points. India secured fifth place with 379 points.

Ri Suk (DPR Korea) – Women’s Best Lifter with 1013.191 ROBI points in the 63kg category.

HE Yueji (China) – Men’s Best Lifter with 1052.189 ROBI points in the 65kg category.

India’s Performance

Host nation India delivered an impressive overall performance, finishing:

3rd in Women’s Team Rankings
5th in Men’s Team Rankings

The final day witnessed the successful completion of the women’s +86kg category along with the official closing ceremony attended by officials of the Asian Weightlifting Federation, international delegates, athletes, coaches and sports administrators.
