Prominent Afghan political figures gathered in Kabul to discuss the peace talks and participation of the representatives from all political parties in the peace process.
"VAN" (Afghanistan Bureau) :: In his remarks, Chief Executive Abdullah said: “that no one should attempt to hinder the peace process for their agenda; instead, we should work on creating a consensus on the issue that facilitates the peace process.”
Mohammad Mohaqiq, the second deputy of Abdullah Abdullah, hosted the meeting, where key politicians, including former President Hamid Karzai, former vice president Mohammad Younus Qanooni, Mohammad Karim Khalili, head of the High Peace Council (HPC).
“We sat together to exchange views on the settlement of the conflict in Afghanistan, and have our plans that can end the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan,” said Hamid Karzai.
These remarks come out a few days after President Ashraf Ghani on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos accused Karzai and Abdullah of having no plan for peace in Afghanistan.
The emphasis of the gathering headed by prominent Afghan politicians is to have an inclusive group of negotiators in peace talks who could represent Afghanistan rather than a particular team.
Meanwhile, Afghan politicians prioritize the intra-Afghan talks, which will then pave the way for the issue of a permanent ceasefire. According to them, this should be welcomed by all Afghans and rejecting means saying no to peace.
Reports say that negotiations between the Taliban and the US have entered into a relatively advanced phase, and expected that the two sides would come to a final agreement soon.
