"VAN" (International Desk - 15.08.2024) :: Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban, stated on the eve of the third anniversary of the fall of the republic that they had predicted the escape of Ashraf Ghani, the former President of Afghanistan.
In an interview, Muttaqi said, “Ashraf Ghani was given power very easily by the Americans and foreigners, so when the pressure came, he naturally fled.”
Ashraf Ghani, the former President of Afghanistan, fled the country with his wife on August 15, 2021, as the forces of the Taliban reached the gates of Kabul.
Analysts believe that Ghani’s sudden escape was one of the main factors in the collapse, and his distrust of those around him contributed to the downfall of Afghanistan’s defense and security forces in the weeks leading up to August 15, 2021.
Ashraf Ghani and his wife, Rula Ghani, have also been accused of taking tens of millions of dollars with them when they fled Afghanistan. However, no evidence has been published to support these allegations.
Since the Taliban took power, Afghanistan has faced a dire humanitarian crisis, with millions of people suffering from food insecurity, lack of healthcare, and poverty. The situation has only worsened with the international community’s limited recognition and support for the Taliban regime.
One of the most concerning issues under Taliban rule has been the ban on girls’ education beyond the sixth grade. This decision has deprived countless girls of their right to education, drawing widespread condemnation from human rights organizations and the global community.
The Taliban’s rule has also been marked by severe violations of human rights and women’s rights. Restrictions on women’s freedom of movement, employment, and participation in public life have raised alarms about the future of Afghanistan’s society under the current regime.
As Afghanistan continues to grapple with these challenges, the international community faces the difficult task of addressing the humanitarian needs of the Afghan people while navigating the complex political landscape created by the Taliban’s return to power.
