To be a good if not great journalist, we need to be street smart in using artificial intelligence as software smart with analytical mind - Prof. Goel

"VAN" (Kurukshetra Bureau - Haryana) :: “To be a good if not great journalist l, we need to be street smart (simple, moral, action oriented, responsive and transparent) in using artificial intelligence as software smart with analytical mind,” said former Vice Chancellor Professor M.M. Goel retired from Kurukshetra University.

He was addressing the participants of the webinar on ‘ Social Responsibility in Journalism’ organised by Jagran, Hissar on the occasion of Prarena Divas .

We have to learn reporting from Sanjay the greatest journalist as the describer of the Mahabharata war and Bhagvad Gita to the blind king Dhritarashtra with intuitive knowledge and divine vision, shared Professor Goel.

To become hero from a villain, a journalist has to understand the role with the code of conduct for the stakeholders and society, believes Prof. Goel.

The data limitations on covid crisis and its impact have left journalists with challenges in providing accurate information to the public, opined Professor Goel.

Professor Goel also urged journalists to build relationships with researchers to maintain accurate reporting for public consumption to take precautions during the pandemic era.

To stop misuse of the various laws including RTI Act, there is a definite role for the fraternity of journalists with ethical restraints, believes Prof. Goel.

To avoid the fear of the pandemic, we have to be fearless in reporting the dangerous trend of fake news on social media including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and LinkedIn, said Professor Goel.

We need to accept the challenge of competition with spiritual enthusiasm as spiritual bankruptcy and commercialization are the two major causes of the deteriorating standards in journalism, said Professor Goel.

To improve functioning of media at all levels, we require morality, credibility and accountability with abilities of head and heart, skills and knowledge, told Professor Goel.
