First finals and semifinals completed at the 2025 World Rowing Under 19 Championships

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 09.08.2025) :: It was a short, but sweet session of racing on day three of the 2025 World Rowing Under 19 Championships in Trakai, Lithuania.

Today’s racing saw the first of our Under 19 competitors race finals with minor finals contested in the biggest boat classes – the men’s single sculls and the men’s and women’s double sculls. The Final D of the U19 men’s double sculls saw an incredible sprint to the line between South Africa and Georgia with South Africa claiming victory, and 19th place overall, by just 0.22 seconds.

Racing then moved on to quarterfinals for the Under 19 women’s sculls – the largest boat class of the championships. All three medalists from this season’s European Rowing U19 Championships secured quarterfinal wins today with Spain’s European silver medalist Esther Fuerte Chacon posting the fastest qualifying time.

Semifinals were held for the women’s and men’s double sculls as crews booked their places for Sunday’s finals. Great Britain’s Emily Nicholas and Catherine Gardner achieved the fastest qualifying time in the women’s semis whilst it was Ireland’s Jonah Kirby and Jack Rafferty claiming the honours for the men.

The remainder of the semifinals will be contested tomorrow, Saturday 9 August. Whilst the racing day will start at 10:30 with more minor finals, the afternoon session will start at 13:25 with the semifinals.

In between the racing sessions, a Star Race will take place at 13:10 with five boats containing famous Lithuanian rowers racing over a 200m course.

All medal finals will take place on Sunday 10 August.
