ISSF will always keep the community informed as we move forwards

"VAN" (Sports Desk - 17.07.2025) :: The ISSF recently communicated to all Member Federations and Industry partners the proposals for changes to Rifle Discipline clothing. The letter and supporting notes to Member Federations provided information about likely new innovations which are necessary to safeguard the future of the discipline.

They included new testing tolerances for rifle jackets, trousers, and shoes. We want to stress that these proposals are not yet finalised and remain proposals for further investigation and consideration. However, it must be stressed that they are a strong recommendation from the ISSF Technical and Athletes Committees and other subject matter experts within ISSF and Sport. They give very clear indication of final likely outcomes, which are required if we are to preserve the discipline.

The intention is that athletes will not have to buy new clothing as these new measures are implemented and thus existing clothing can continue to be used. If existing clothing meets the new testing tolerances quoted, then no adjustment to clothing is required.

However, if existing or new clothing does not pass the new testing tolerance levels for thickness and stiffness, then some manipulation and adjustment will be required. This is all explained and defined in some outline in the latest communication. Also, as mentioned in the letter to Federations, work remains to make final decisions, provide technical detail and articulate the precise wording for the new ISSF Rule Book 2026.

These proposals will be further discussed and developed during the remainder of this year through the relevant ISSF discipline and responsible Committees, ready for ratification and subsequent imposition as of 1 January 2026.

We are studying the possibility of organising a forum during the 2025 WCHs in Cairo. This will enable athletes and coaches to be briefed in person regarding the details of the rules as well as the pathway to implementation.

ISSF will always keep the community informed as we move forwards.
