"VAN" (Sports Desk - 07.12.2025) :: Despite the best efforts of Mother Nature to derail qualifying for the South Coast Nationals at South Coast Raceway today, an incredible effort from track staff and volunteers has ensured the scheduled action for round 5 of the 2025/2026 ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship was able to be completed today ahead of racing tomorrow.
When all was said and done, Cooper Plummer (New Gen Business Park Junior Drag Bike), Taylor Horton (Junior Dragster), Malcolm Todd (Goodyear Racing Super Street), Dean Jamieson (Ballistic Performance Parts Modified Bike), Peter Furlanetto (The South Australian Drag Racers Association Super Sedan), Adriana Cartledge (Gallagher Modified), Joe Khoury (New Gen Business Park Competition Bike), Daniel Jones (Top Sportsman), Doina Day (New Gen Business Park Supercharged Outlaws), and Jordan Spencer (Super Gas) claimed the Top Qualifying honours.
The non-championship Street Fighter bracket is also on track this weekend, with Taylor Henley Top Qualifying in the always exciting local bracket.
Cartledge will be racing for someone special when she lines up as the New Gen Business Park Top Qualifier for Gallagher Modified Eliminator tomorrow.
“Today has been great! Portland’s staff were under the pump all day to get the track race ready, and they did an amazing job,” Cartledge said.
“I am very happy to have Top Qualified. Yesterday we ran 4.47 and we ran another 4.47 today, so the car is consistent, and we are happy with its performance.
“Tomorrow I hope to have fun, be safe, and hopefully turn some win lights on for Billy’s birthday,” Cartledge added, referring to the late Billy Cartledge, who tragically passed away at the age of 11 in January of 2024.
For Furlanetto, it was a busy day as he was fielding not only his Ford XY in South Australian Drag Racers Association Super Sedan, but also running a Junior Dragster for his son, Brock Furlanetto.
“It was a bit crazy, running a Junior Dragster and a Super Sedan together can be a bit full on!” he said.
“The weather was a pain as well, but I take my hat off to the South Coast Raceway track staff and officials for pushing through the day.
“I am very happy (to top qualify) considering the conditions we were dealt, and the many fast cars in Super Sedan.
“Tomorrow I am hoping we can make it through to the finals, which will be a big achievement considering the size of the field and the tough opponents in this class,” he concluded, while thanking his crew – Ben Scott, Matt Preston, Adam Hawke – and his racing family, Tedesco Racing, for “their ongoing love and support.”
