"VAN" (Afghanistan Bureau) :: Hizb-e-Islami leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar left Kabul for Islamabad Monday to discuss the ongoing peace talks with Pakistani leaders, hopping the trip will contribute to the process.
While boarding to the plane at Hamid Karzai Internal Airport, Hekmatyar said to reporters he is going to Pakistan with a “message of Peace”.
On Sunday, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said Hekmatyar, including a number of Afghan delegations, will be visiting Islamabad for a two-day official trip, where “he will deliver a talk at a policy think-tank and interact with the media.”
Hekmatyar’s visit will provide an opportunity for an “exchange of views” on the Afghan peace process and strengthening of Pakistan-Afghanistan bilateral relations, the statement said.
“Pakistan attaches high importance to its fraternal ties with Afghanistan, rooted deep in shared history, faith, culture, values and traditions,” wrote the statement as quoted by a private news channel of Afghanistan. “Pakistan fully supports all efforts for peace, stability and prosperity of the Afghan people.”
“Pakistan has consistently supported an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political settlement through an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process,” the report added.
Hekmatyar’s visit came weeks after Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah wrapped talks with Pakistan President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan on Afghan peace, where Islamabad assured its role in the process.
