Gafur Rahimov irrevocably resigned as the president of AIBA

"VAN" (Sports Desk) :: Gafur Rahimov, elected head of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) on November 2, 2018, irrevocably resigned as the president of the organization, according to the official website of AIBA.

In March, Rahimov announced that he stepped aside. However, according to AIBA statutes and bylaws, he had the opportunity to return within a year without an election procedure. By the decision of June 27, the AIBA Executive Committee decided to remove this article from the bylaw, depriving of Rahimov's opportunity to return. On July 15, Rakhimov announced his final resignation. Thus, the secretary general of the Boxing Federation of Russia Umar Kremlev achieved his goal, completely erased Gafur Rahimov from the sport.

After the AIBA Executive Committee meeting, which was held on June 27 in Geneva, Switzerland, Kremlev announced a vote of no confidence for the AIBA Interim President Dr. Mohamed Moustahsane, as well as the head of the Ethics Commission Mr. Jost Schmid, a disciplinary investigation was opened against the secretary general of the Russian Boxing Federation. However, the current AIBA Ethical Commission is illegitimate, since Schmid is a relative of Rahimov, and the Interim President is his ward.
