Subhayan and Utsab shine in 1st All India Chess Federation On Line Cup 2020

"VAN" (Sports Desk) :: 1st AICF cup online Blitz Chess tournament 2020 witnessed overwhelming response of 380 players from 28 states across India. International Master Nubair Shaikh of Maharashtra emerged as a champion by garnering 9.5 poitns out of 11 rounds. Bengal youngsters Subhayan Kundu and Utsab Chatterjee secured 5th and 9th position respectively.

While the countrywide lockdown due to COVID 19 outbreak has affected all sporting activity, on line chess events continue to thrive amidst the pandemic. Amidst the regular inter club on line events which are taking place regularly, All Marathi Chess Association organized the first event under the aegis of All India Chess Federation offering a Cash Prizes of Rs. 3 Lakhs for a 3 minutes on line Blitz Championship. US base Li Chess platform was used for the event.

According to the organizers, the final standing of the players would be declared after checking the matches played by the contestants and verifying if any external help was used for the competition. Already 6 players were debarred during the matches on suspicion of using unfair means. The process of checking the games played and officially declaration of the results will take 5 days.
