India handed over two more gunship helicopters to Afghan Air Force

"VAN" (International Desk) :: India handed over two more gunship helicopters to the Afghan Air Force on Tuesday, the Ministry of Defense officials said.

Fawad Aman, a spokesman for the Ministry of Defense in a Twitter post said the Indian authorities handed over the helicopters to the Afghan Air Force during a ceremony in Kabul Airport.

The Indian Ambassador to Kabul Vinay Kumar, acting defense minister Asadullah Khalid and some other senior officials had attended the ceremony.

This comes as India handed over two of the four gunship helicopters to the Afghan Air Force in mid-May this year.

India has played a major role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban regime and has invested over $2 billion in various reconstruction and infrastructure projects.

The government of India pledged a fresh aid package of $1 billion to support the reconstruction projects in Afghanistan during a visit by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in late 2016.

The two countries have also developed a high level of cooperation in terms of military and security during the recent years.
