"VAN" (Chhattisgarh Bureau) :: First Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Mr. Ajit Pramod Kumar Jogi passed away this afternoon at the age of 74 years. He breathed his last at a private hospital in capital Raipur, where he was admitted after a cardiac arrest and subsequent swelling in brain on May 09.
Currently, Jogi was MLA from Marwahi constituency. He became the first Chief minister of Chhattisgarh in November, 2000, when the new state was carved out of Madhya Pradesh. He remained as Chief minister till December, 2003 when the congress lost power to BJP in state's maiden assembly elections.
About 4 years ago, Shri Jogi quit the Congress in June , 2016 and floated a new regional party Janta Congress Chhattisgarh. His party won 5 assembly seats in the last assembly elections held in year 2018.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime minister Narendra Modi have condoled the death of Ajit Jogi. Prime minister said, Ajit Jogi was passionate about public service. Mr Modi in his message said this passion made him work hard as a bureaucrat and as a political leader. Prime minister said, he strived to bring a positive change in the lives of the poor, especially tribal communities.
