Syria participates in conference of parliaments of Iraq’s neighboring countries

"VAN" (International Desk) :: Syria will participate in the conference of parliaments of Iraq’s neighboring countries scheduled to kick off in Baghdad on Saturday.

A delegation from the People’s Assembly, headed by Speaker of People’s Assembly Hammouda Sabbagh will attend the conference.

Upon arrival at Baghdad International Airport on Thursday, Sabbagh and the accompanying delegation were received by Speaker of Iraq’s Council of Representatives, Mohammad al-Halbousi, his deputy Hassan al-Kaabi, and a number of members of Parliament.

In a statement to SANA’s correspondent in Baghdad, Sabbagh voiced hope that the conference of parliaments of Iraq’s neighboring countries will be fruitful for the interest of these countries, their progress and prosperity.

“Our visit to Baghdad comes at the invitation of Speaker of Iraq’s Council of Representatives, Mohammad al-Halbousi to attend the conference… We thank Iraq for this initiative to hold the conference and hope it will be a good gesture,” he said.

Sabbagh pointed out that his speech during the first session of conference on Saturday will clarify all the issues that concern Syria and Iraq and also the neighboring countries.

The Iraqi Council of Representatives announced that it had finished all logistic preparations to host the conference.

“The General Secretariat of the Council has completed all preparations for the convening of the conference, which includes the six neighboring countries namely Syria, Turkey, Jordan and Saudi Arabia as well as the Republic of Iraq,’ Secretary General of the Council Salah Al-Humiri said.
